Irony

This week the rape crisis center has been on campus with people wearing pink tea shirts that have anti rape and mutual consent messages on them. There are signs all over campus and fliers being handed out wherever there are large amounts of walking traffic. The strange part is that their booth has been blaring music that unapologetically objectifies women. I have not heard one song coming out of there speakers that did not explicitly talk about women as mere sexual objects. They are saying don't rape us and then playing music that says think of us as sexual objects and not as human beings. Don't get me wrong I definitely think rape is evil and can under no circumstances be justified. I just find it odd that they are trying to send the message that women have rights but are playing music, at high amplitudes, that dehumanize women into sexual objects to be used and discarded.

At the skilled nursing where I work per diem, there was an old man sitting in his wheelchair. Next to him was a woman who worked there. She was keeping him company. They were playing some game. I came back a while later. He was sitting up in his wheelchair, eyes closed, head bowed (apparently asleep) and holding her hand. It was so sweet. I don't care how old we get, we all want our hand held every once in a while.
